Innovation, education and global innovation index

In this study, information is provided on innovation, education and the place of our country in
the global innovation index. Although the word innovation does not give the exact meaning of
renewal, its a renewal process. But not every renewal is innovation. The important thing about
innovation is that it is to provide economical and social benefits. Innovation should not be

perceived as only technological and a process comes out in products. Innovation is a process
happens in various kinds of many areas of society. Many countries have transformed
innovation process to both economical and social utilities by performing it successfully. In
this process, it needs individuals who see the developments happens all around the world, can
take risks, is creative, is interrogator, can communicate, is collaborative, is productive. This
only occurs with renewals which are to be made in education. In this transformation, it is very
crucial to be known where the country stands in Global Innovation Index (GII). In that,
Global Innovation Index (GII) is designed to reveal strengths and weaknesses by means of
politics and implementations related to renewals of a country and it focuses on both
enhancing the ways of innovation measurements and understanding the innovations. It helps
to create environment in which components of GII innovation is evaluated continuously. It
offers detailed a metric evaluation which include economy of approximately 120-140
countries every year. This tool represents 95,1% of world population and 98,6% of gross
domestic products in the world. According to the report of GII of 2016, among 138 countries,
our country is placed in the 42nd with 39,03 points. As for that the report of 2017 in which
127 countries were examined, it is seen that our county regrades to the 43rd with 38,9 points.
